Let’s address the elephant in the room. Our good ol’ friend, ChatGPT. While she doesn’t do my writing, she is one of the best assistants I’ve ever had.
Y’all, let’s rewind to when I first started my photography business back in 2010. Using ChatGPT for photographers wasn’t even on the radar. And honestly? Bless my mom. She was my unofficial proofreader, cheerleader, and emergency line for every draft. I’d email her every blog post, every gallery, every half-finished caption. She caught the typos I missed while running on coffee and editing weddings, and she always told me to just. press. send.
Fast-forward a few years, and while she’s still my biggest fan, I’ve found a new assistant who doesn’t mind late-night drafts or overly wordy paragraphs that need refining: ChatGPT.
And before you worry, she is not writing for me. Here’s how I use ChatGPT inside my business: as an editor and assistant, not a content creator.

How I Use ChatGPT in My Business
1. Content Clean-Up with ChatGPT for Photographers (when keywords feel clunky)
If I’ve written a blog post and I just know the keyword needs to be integrated in, but I can’t figure out how to make it sound natural? I’ll ask ChatGPT to help me restructure or refine my paragraph. Not rewrite it. Just clean it up so the flow is stronger, but actually helps me work faster with adding in keywords and SEO enhancements.
2. Repurposing content like a pro
Instead of starting from scratch, I’ll drop the post into ChatGPT and ask:
“Take this blog post I wrote about heirloom portraits and give me five Instagram captions from different perspectives.”
Do I copy and paste straight to Instagram? Nope. I tweak. Always. But the heavy lifting is done, and I stay consistent across platforms without rewriting and creating ten different caption ideas.
Pro Tip: Pop this straight into your Caption Bank Board in Asana so you’ve got it ready to share and revisit. You’ll find caption bank templates and more inside my Asana DIY Course for Photographers
3. Brainstorming when I’m stuck
Sometimes I just need to bounce ideas around. I’ll ask ChatGPT for 10 blog post ideas about a specific topic, or an ideal launch sequence. It helps me get unstuck and gives me a springboard to refine from.
4. Analyze and Edit Content
Other times, I’ll drop in a full email sequence, a blog post draft, or a website page I’ve been staring at for too long.
Things to ask about:
- Review for clarity and tone
- Point out any gaps or confusing sections
- Suggest ways to make it flow more naturally or align with my brand voice
💬 Example ChatGPT prompt:
“Review this email sequence. Where are the gaps? Does the tone feel warm and supportive but still clear and confident?”
It’s like having an editor in your back pocket (without paying hourly 🙌🏻).
5. Website Audit with ChatGPT for Photographers
This one is so helpful! If you’ve ever wondered:
“Does my site sound like me?”
I’ll ask this ChatGPT prompt for photographers: “Do a quick website audit of [insert URL] and check only for typos, heading structure, brand voice consistency, and give me the top 3 action items.”
It’s simple, fast, and gives me the highest-impact fixes without the overwhelm of a full deep dive.
Then, if it doesn’t provide clear steps, I’ll follow up with:
“Give me a prioritized to-do list from that audit.”
And finally:
“What is the tone and voice of the brand?”
This three-step combo gives me:
- An honest snapshot of what’s working (and what’s not).
- A concrete list of edits I can make.
- A written summary of my brand voice I can save in Asana for future to refer to. This is especially helpful if I’m outsourcing or collaborating.
It’s a simple way to stay consistent across my website, blog, emails, and social content.
Set Expectations: AI ≠ Done-for-You
Think of using ChatGPT as a photographer like using Lightroom.
It can speed things up, clean things up, and even help you see your content in a new light, but it doesn’t create the photo. You still have to shoot it. You still have to frame it, compose it, and know what story you’re telling.
Same goes for your content.
AI can help polish your words, organize your ideas, or repurpose your blog into captions. But the heart behind it? The message that connects? That’s. all. you.
And before I ever schedule or publish AI-assisted content, I run it through a plagiarism checker just to be on the safe side that chat didn’t pull something in without my knowledge.
I want to be sure what I’m sharing is authentic, original, and truly reflective of my voice and not something stitched together from strangers on the internet.
AI Pro Tip for Photographers
If you’re using AI in your business, don’t forget to protect yourself legally.

How I Don’t Use ChatGPT
1. I don’t let it write my content.
The heart behind your brand? The way you speak to your clients? That’s all you. Not a robot. ChatGPT can support your writing, but it should never replace the God created one and only you!
2. I don’t trust it for facts.
ChatGPT is pulling from all over the web. That doesn’t mean it’s accurate or current. Always double-check anything it gives you that sounds like a stat or a quote.
3. I don’t copy and paste and call it a day.
If you’re going to use ChatGPT, refine what it gives you. Read it out loud. Add your voice. Rewrite any lines that sound off. If you never use a em dashes or the words or phrases “freezing time” “fleeting moments” or “Magic” in real life and your copy… tell it not to either.
Conclusion
At the end of the day, ChatGPT has become one of the best assistants I’ve ever had. She helps me clean up content, repurpose ideas, brainstorm when I’m stuck, and audit my website with fresh eyes.
But just like my mom was my first emergency line for every blog and gallery, the heart of the words still has to come from me. The ideas, the stories, the message that connects? That is all mine.
You can use ChatGPT as a photographer’s assistant, not as your author. She can help you along the way, but she can’t replace you.
And that’s actually a really good thing. 💗
